Asparagus comes in green or white colour. White asparagus is the same plant like green one (pictured above) but was prevented from reaching sunlight during growth.
Asparagus belong to the lily family.
Fresh asparagus should be firm, it should crack when you break it.
When preparing asparagus remember to remove woody ends.
