“The Pet Itch” & “The Bunny That Couldn’t Be Found” – Children’s Books Review

children's book from Maverick

“The Pet Itch” written by Elli Woollard and illustrated by Elina Ellis is a new book published by Maverick.

It is a story about Mossy the monster who like most of children most of all wanted to have a pet. In his case it was the Itch (who was incredibly cute little creature) but all his family were against it.

(…) “Pets”, said his granny, “are terrible creatures”.
“Pets”, said his uncle, “are only for teachers”.
“Pets”, said his aunty, “are nasty and smelly”.
“Pets”, said his sister, “will wee on the telly”. (…)
(…) “Pets”, said his granny “are perfectly great
when you’re older and bigger – you just have to wait. (…)

Even his sister was opposing at first as she was only interested in pink clothes and ribbons but not for long. Soon she has spotted an opportunity to make use of her passion and the sister-brother team came up with very cheeky plan to make the rest of their family love the pet Itch and let it stay.

funny book for children

Another offering from Maverick is not less entertaining. My girls enjoyed reading “The Bunny That Couldn’t Be Found” written by Angela Mitchell with lovely illustrations by Sarah Horne a lot (!)

Very funny story that is taking place in a kingdom where Princess Lolly lives with her dog – Johnny Bunny. One day it has gone missing and Princess needlessly made the entire police forces to look for him, but they were not looking for the right animal…
